.
I've just got one and changed over, sick of having 2 diffrent hotmail accounts and putting up with msn rubbish.
Its okay, its a bit of a different gui to get used to and no webmail actually seems very nice to look at.
But I dolike setting google as my homepage and having quick acess to email, blogs and all the other thing google offers.
Oh bugger now I have to remmeber a new password to post this!
Gmail
I,m not a big fan of technologies,
But I have to say that I,m very happy with gmail. I tried 2 and a half years ago, and since then I,m still there.
I used to have different mails, first, those you have to pay, then I tried hotmail and yahoo, but wasn,t so easy to use, I don,t know?
Why I find gmail ?good?/OK?
1) Space to use 6373 MB., (my wife uses hotmail, but too little space, need to delete some mails, if not the server "autodelete" important mails) sine I,m there, I used 4% of the available space and didn,t delete almost any mail.
2) SPAM function, automatically detects spam, and put them in a special folder.
3) Organize replies into conversations: each message you send is grouped with all the responses you receive, very useful: Associates the same mails from other person in almost one group of mails, so if you have been "talking", with somebody about one subject, and receiving and replying for a year (lets say 24 mails) gmail joins all them together. It,s very useful to see what you/the other said before, don,t need to find it in a ?sea? of mails.
Plus:
And I,ve just installed "gmail talk", and it,s seems to be great.
Since then, when I turn on the computer, tells me (in the lower right tiny window) when I have a new mail (without connect to gamil!) wonderful.
Cons: may be (when I opened then, now I don,t look at that) Is that appears some little ads related to the mail you are currently seeing.
For instance you receive a mail from Peter for a quotation of chairs, then you,ll see on the right or a little one line add, that says,: "Oh..you want a jacobsen chair?, ours are the best, link it here" + "Do you rally want an unbeatable quotation for Jacobsen chairs?, ours are the cheaper, link it here", and if any of both said "hotel", will provably appears "Need a hotel in Peters, town? Link it here"
Sometimes a bit "disturbing" and others it,s seems like a "bad taste joke".
But that was in the first week, now I absolutely forgot about it.

LRF:
Thank you very for sharing this.
I don,t know what you exactly mean with "communicate bettwen us", but my gmail user name is ,,gustymoreno,,, I,ve just installed "gmail talk" but some problem with the sound now.
Are you happy with gmail?,
SDR:
"Onother window to the world", ha ha. You are right. The good thing of my gmail-window is that it didn,t automatically closed, nor any surprise since then? (but if I,d be happy with my other account ,no need to change!)
Heath:
I also have google as my homepage sine some time ago, and it,s really good. I saw that some people, writes the web address they want to go in the goggle search, so if you type something wrong, you go directly ehere you want to go.
Why need to remember a new password?, I try to use almost the same password (I cannot remember more than 3 things)
To me ?Heath?, looks really nice, better than HP, sometimes I read some post signed by HR, or FP
and when I realize wasn,t you. But we have only one Australian Heath!
p.s.1:
I don,t use to recommend many things, just 2/3 books, 2/3 films, 2/3 cities/places and I don,t like to recommend technologies, but I,d recommend gmail if you ask me.
p.s 2.:
I found this link:
Why I din,t find this before, they explain some things better: (so better that they think we could find useful and interesting their ads!)

Thanks Gustavo, I'm still...
Thanks Gustavo, I'm still having a bit of trouble with the gmail gui, I'm a creature of habit so I'm sure it will be fine with time.
Now that Mr. Ledger has died I'm hoping to reclaim my christian name and won't have to hear '...as in Ledger" anymore!
I used to have basically the same password for everything and then I found spyware on my machine and have now changed everything.
I had some computer trouble recently and I have had my hard disk drive cloned, so if/when the hdd thats in there at the moment fails or horror of horrors the house burns down or its stolen I can literally pop the cloned disk into a new machine and boot-up without having to re-install any operating system or software! It really is great insurance.
Poor Mr Ledger..,
why did he died?, Isn,t he sleeping?
Oh, my god!, problems with passwords!, need 3 different passwords?, I,ll need a brain operation then!
spyware / hard disk drive cloned ........when just looking for a cute chair.. You see why I,m not a big fun of technologies?
Yes, we are creatures of habit, that why we need to think this changes 100 times.
