Sorry bentply...
I'm with Pegboard on this one. It's a FANTASTIC job of reassembly, but there is RARELY a greater sacrilege than painted wood.

Nice work, setag. I only counted three legs in your first photo, which, among other things, swayed my 'no' vote. 🙂

What was my negative comment? Was it the "Good work", my question about the condition of the wood, or my opinion that a weathered or distressed patina can be interesting visually?

any color you want....
...as long as it's black.
anything else, and you enter the aesthetic hell of shabby chic--
[or "Shabby Sheik" as I once read on craigslist....]

Thanks everyone for the compliments
Yes, it would have been nice to keep it a natural oiled wood, however after sanding It quite smooth it still had a greenish stain in various spots to the wood almost mold looking, so it needs to be painted. Black will do and I have an old student size desk I refinished in black with natural wood top so should look good together. Next on to 20 or so other chairs I need to restore/refinish and keep from the kindling gods!
Happy Mothers Day to all, we plan to hit the Getty for MD and do the Architecture and garden tour.

I am gobsmacked!
That's one impressive restoration! I vote for red, over black. I think a rich red would complement the form nicely.
Bentply...I think you misunderstand PegBoard's nature.
