Hi all. I have a question (big surprise lol) for all those more smarter than I be.
Has anyone else heard of a Case Study magazine rack? I saw this magazine rack on ebay today and it was a Modernica piece attributed as an Eames Case Study. I have the same piece, but vintage and manufactured by Peter Pepper Products.
Not sure I agree with the Eames attribution. Does anyone know who this would have been designed by?
Thanks in advance!
Dave

I have
never heard the term Case Study applied to an Eames furniture piece -- or any other period artifact but the house-design competition sponsored and initiated by Arts and Architecture magazine, in the 'forties and 'fifties. . .
The term has, of course, been hijacked by eBay sellers, as a means to attract viewers who are interested in things of that era. The only connection between the Eameses and the Case Study program is, of course, their own house, which appeared as Case Study House #8. (Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen collaborated on Case Study House #9, built for Arts and Architecture editor John Entenza on a lot adjacent to the Eames house.)

I vaguely remember Modernica making that rack.
But they would have just called it the "Case Study Magazine Rack"; "Eames" in the auction description is just Ebay-ese for "it's made of plywood and it looks Modern", the way "Panton" means "it's round and made of plastic" and "Knoll era" means "it's really heavy, with wool upholstery".
If it WAS manufactured by Modernica, it's out of production now.

Thanks SDR for the info.! I too thought case study was only the homes, but I have seen it so many times now attatched to items; I wasn't sure.
Seems Modernica has hijacked that term quite a bit from sofas to shelving.
Still would love to know more about this rack if anyone knows.
