repost of question....
So here is a carpet question.
Is it odd to place rugs on carpet?
The carpet is medium pile shag like, almost white.

Pile it up, whitespike
it's not odd if you like it and it works for you! Make youself happy the h*ll with conventions, rules or other limitations to your creative spirit!

I don't think it is odd
either.
Especially on a field of white med shag.
And a nice thick spot for lounging...
Though the olive green may shed onto the white. Only time
will tell.
I have some orange circle rugs on my olive carpet.
But this is NY and we tend to do whatever we want, even WITH comment 🙂
I bet if you post a pic once settled in, you will get lots of reaction.
Nice idea Heath! and i like the Laing photo. And the gumball rug above.

Not odd
I hope it's not odd, whitespike, because I'm sitting in a room right now with a kilim rug on top of a sisal carpet! I've put rugs on carpets before but only if the carpet is neutral and lighter than the rug. The carpet just tends to fade away and become a background border.
Put a rug pad between the rug and the carpet, just in case the rug gets wet, you don't want it to bleed onto your white carpet.

good idea Riki
I've got three layers under my 12x12 shag-ish. It is now 3 inches thick.
Great for lounging and for the dogs. AND protects the wood floors under.
With company coming and a couple kids, it doubles as a guest bed.

And, yeah, I might post some photos in a couple of weeks.
