Hallo to everybody, I'm new at this forum and I hope to receive some good tips. I would like to buy a chaiselongue and a three seater LC3 by Le Corbusier. I'm looking for a real good quality for an affordable price. I visited a lot of sites and I had a good impression about www.steeldomus.com. The site is well done, serious and there are clear explications about their production. However I would like to share my impression with somebody who already bought something there.
web buyer guide
wolf, as you are new at this forum, probably you did not realize that you can easily look for a topic using the window up on your right. Doing like that you can also find a positive feedback from me about steeldomus. However let me explain you my system, I believe it works.1) browse carefully the site: a well done site is a hard and long job, and people who work hard are generally more trustworthy. 2) send an email: if you receive an answer and/or a call back within not longer than 2 days, this means these people are working. 3) ask for patterns: this is another good way to evaluate a service. 4) Make a phone call: no answers and no calling back is very bad. 5) give importance to safe transactions systems.
wise wards, H; wise wards. I...
wise wards, H; wise wards. I fully agree. I made an order at steeldomus but before I asked for patterns and I talked to the (very kind) madam. I bought a red Bibendum by Eileen Gray at steeldomus and i'm fully satisfied. The leather is really soft and the finishing well done. All ok with paiments.
Depends if you are happy to settle for a copy
Get Real - would be my advise - and buy the authentic version rather than a reproduction... Make the investment now and it will be worth the investment in the future... Buy a cheaper copy now and it will be worth NOTHING in the future...
You decide !
Yes!
I know steeldomus, but I have find a new shop for furniture bauhaus. Big catalog and very good deals.

Real stuff is overpriced
Real stuff by Knoll, Cassina, Vitra or Herman Miller is too expensive, when you need a lot of pieces, like I do. I cannot justify buying 6 or 7 chairs and spending up to 40 000 euros in furniture for my office ? just for chairs.
A majority of merchants won't five you the origins of their leather, hence you buy Chinese (full of lethal materials) without knowing it. Most of them don't disclose these origins, which is illegal.
Instead, some others, like ....
disclose their sources. The latter has leathers from Italy, steelworks and woods from Denmark and UK.

Personally I think having...
Personally I think having copies is an embarrassment.
I only buy genuine designer pieces at either vintage or used furniture stores, online or at auctions.Often you can buy genuine pieces for near the new price of a copy and don't end up with the cringe or design rip off factor or to worry about.
There is no reason you can't buy hundreds of other good designs that are affordable and top quality.
I think people aiming only for iconic pieces and then saying I have to buy copies because I cannot afford genuine ones is just status seeking.
starline excess
You're a snobby idiot who pays up any amount of dollar when someone puts a name on a piece of wood and leather. Really you are the status seeker, parading an "original" piece of furniture as the only way to truly shine. How pathetic. You're not interested in the material or the comfort of a chair, rather than what license hawking company's name is carved into it.
Choose I assume you will...
Choose I assume you will never understand.
It has nothing to do with price but people like you say they cannot afford authentic so assume it is their right to go buy a Chinese copy.It could be a $10 item for all I care.
You can buy authentic cheaper than copies in many cases but people are too lazy to look. They say it is their right to buy good design and should not have to pay so much.
Why do people then target the iconic pieces as a cheap Ikea chair serves the same purpose and may be a great design.
They target iconic pieces so they can seem like a design aficionado to their friends. That is actually snobby too but also being a tight wad and fake at the same time.
I would never buy genuine new as I can't see the point with so much used authentic pieces that pop up on Ebay or at auctions.
I buy many items with no name or label but as long as I like it,has good lines or design and is well made.
Why are Louis Vuitton and Prada handbags copied so much as there are hundreds of good designs out their for a fraction of the cost.Same thing because people who can't afford the so called well off lifestyle want to look like they are living it.
Is that you Choose because that is what's really pathetic.
Too true Starline
It's so good to hear someone who has a real passion for design. You are so right Starline, there is no need for fakes when there are so many affordable designs out there. Some of my favourite vintage pieces are thrift shop finds with no designer heritage, and it's often these pieces that friends always like best.
Living with authentic vintage pieces is such a pleasure and I would never swap that patina for a fake piece. Great design is timeless, but replicas are just tomorrow's landfill.
