I want to buy a barcelona chair. My ideal is to buy an original, say about 10-20 years old with some wear. I like the worn in look. I dont mind scratches etc. Would this reduce the price much? I have been looking on ebay but its just overrun with cheap copies in general.
Where else could I look for such a thing. Should I just trawl through furniture shops?
The alternative is to buy a new one non original probably from somewhere like moderncollections.com
any thoughts on this?

i would think twice about ordering from moderncollections. i ordered some furniture a month and a half ago and finally had to cancel the order after multiple run-ins with the extremely poor customer service department. although their reproductions may be well made (i will never know) my advice would be to buy from a company that actually has a phone number for you to call if you have issues.

take your time in finding the right knoll barcelona group for your needs. knock offs look and feel like knock offs. living with the real thing is life affirming, and the resell on a good vintage knoll set is far better than the copys. our vintage 1964 knoll set is pure butter comfort for hours. check it out yourself, you'll see.
modern collections got my business
well for better or worse I went with modern collections. They have a money back guarantee. Their lack of phone number is frustrating but they do reply to emails.. well after a couple of days. I ordered the custom extra quality black leather option. I didnt realise that this was not returnable and emailed them straight after the order. They returned my email fairly quickly after a few days. It seems that this is in high demand and so they are happy to do returns.
I have trawled through a fair number of places lookig for vintage knoll chairs but not had too much luck. Often they seem to be sold in pairs. No doubt there is one out there at the right price but for the time being I will go for the repro and hope for the best.
