i've seen several fake desks - all coming from the same previously mentioned source in london. at one time this dealer always had a desk available to buy - i know of at least 8 desks that he sold to unsuspecting clients. usually these desks have been repainted - like new (because they are). the runners on the inside of the drawers will look old and a little rusty (having been left outside for sometime to 'age' them down. particular give aways are the makers mark in the footwell (maurice calka edition leleu deshay) - on an original desk this is very clear - on the fakes very much less so. also look though the holes in the front fascia on the doors - you will usually see the fresh fiberglass and a poor attempt to paint (it is not easy to paint though a little hole). there was a time when there was never a lock on the larger cabinet drawer on the left hand side - whilst this may have gone missing the fact that there was never any evidence of a slot above it suggests that the forger forgot this important detail. if you are based in london i would be happy to come and look and give you my opinion.

Thank you for your reply.
I do have a bit of provenance on the desk, knowing the previous owner and where she purchased it - though the timing is about the same time as forgeries seemed to appear.
There is a hole for the lock.
I am in London, my e-mail address is katrina.p@spamarrest.com,
I would be grateful for help with this - the desk is pretty damaged by scratches, which someone has tried to paint over here and there, so I also wonder if there is any way to restore these desks?

there's a discussion over here, on plastic looking kitsch...
i know this is fibreglass, but it looks like plastic... offensively tacky to me, given the price! Even Austin Powers has more self-respect than to buy one!
