It's not the ID threads as much as the way people come off doing it. A "READ FIRST FORUM RULES" kind of sticky would be great. I agree ID threads can result in good conversation if it is treated correctly. I have started ID threads myself, as have many of us. But we are regulars who know the boundaries...
.
This is going on a bit now but instead of a sticky thread which might get ignored after a while, the text that would otherwise go into it could go directly above the form box, that way its seen every time anyone types a post.
I'm still in favour of dividing the forum into 2 but think technical questions are good and far more interesting than the everyday ID threads, I'm not especially against them, they've improved my knowledge again and again, just think they are a distraction from what could be a better forum.
A monster
I had a friend that used to say, people created their own monsters. Perhaps that is central to the ID question.
Repeated kind suggestions to the poster to review old threads and search the internet for information will discourage people who want an answer(s) immedaitely and encourage others to read and learn. To only answer the exact question asked is also a virtue. I have found that people who do not ask the correct questions grow weary of the asking the wrong ones.
Since "love and tolerance" are my new watch words I think the ID question should be solved in the manner of "giving a man a fish or teaching a man to fish".
Do not divide the forum!

Can someone please ID the designer of this couch for me. I see that its available for free on Craig's List, but I don't want to waste my time if it doesn't have the appropriate pedigree. I'm thinking it may have been designed by that guy Eames Era....didn't he also have a brother named Ray?
