I have one from the mid-'70's. Ash veneer.

They (HM) calls it aniline, I call it paint. OK, maybe it's opaque black lacquer. I haven't tested it, but it is certainly original whatever it is. Original cushions were tan that I switched for a set of dark brown resulting in sort of a reverse of the typical scheme.

Fairly reliable source has it as one of a pair custom ordered for an office in Cambridge, MA. I am the 3rd owner.

I'm happy with the oddball chair. Everybody and their cousin has black on rosewood, though I think HM recently began offering ash veneer on ES670/671 again. Maybe it was always a custom order option?

Nice to see you back!

tktoo, always nice to hear from you.

HM has been using ash in their newer production chairs for the last 6-8 years I think. It

I'm a little scattered for the next few weeks and the chair is not in a great location to photograph, but maybe I can get a few detail shots next week. What would you most like to see?
