I've been looking at these chairs for a couple of months (i would like one for in my daughter's bedroom)
and find that there are tonns of copies about as with other wire chairs
Are there any tips when buying a bertoia's kid's chair (especially when there's no cushion)
All tips are welcome (and what the ballpark price range i should expect: i know normally no prices ar mentioned :-))
(edited by DA - no link to ebay sales please, thank you)
The main things....
things to look at, are the ends of the wire struts where they come out to the rim of the chair there should be curved, which is how knoll manufactured them. (The ones in these pcitures are real Knoll production), also look at how the chair shell is mounted to the leg brackets a lot of repros are done in a very messy akward way. Check the welds.. have any of the struts been re-welded? is there any rust? Often people use this type of wire chair for patio furniture, and subsquently they get rusty. A Bertoia chair without seatpads isnt un-commo, nor is it uncommon for the orginal Knoll label not to be attached to the seat pad - you can buy orginal ones on ebay sometimes, and there are modern replacements available. My best advice is do some shopping around, prices can very alot with these and with a bit of patience you'll will be able to find a really good example at a reasonable price.
