I went to the Knoll studio in DC today looking for sample fabrics for a small diamond chair cover. Not only are they expensive ($570!), but the woman who waited on me said I would need a professional to put it on, and once it's on, you should not take it off. I was hoping to use the chair covered in the winter, and outside (it's the inside/outside model) with a pad in the summer. Is this not possible?

Bertoia Small Diamond covers
I'm a long-time Bertoia fan. Bought my first chrome small diamond in 1966. Have put on and taken off covers many times. Pretty easy to do. Chrome chairs tolerate the outdoors best. The powdercoated chairs are meant for outdoor use but cracks in the finish will develop and show the rust. And cleaning can make you crazy. If the chairs are in pretty good condition, I suggest that you protect them from heavy moisture. If you are a purist, be certain to have the little plastic glides in place on the bottom of the rails to keep the finish from rubbing off the bottom from the rough floor surface. Knoll sells these glide sets, but are pricey. I've always wanted to find some inexpensive clear plastic tubing at my local hardware shop and cut pieces along the side to make protective glides for the floor rails. Enjoy! Chairtom

Check Circa50
Circa50 sells covers separately. They don't have prices listed anymore but I know they used to be around $350 for the full cover. They offer vinyl, wool and a nylon fabric with color swatches online.
