.
You might need to do a little research and compare dimensions, tube diameters etc to establish that it is a Thonet produced desk, just because of the fact that copying of tubular steel designs was pretty rife back in the 30s, but FWIW my hunch is that it is Thonet, and very nice indeed. Please don't restore it!
love it
totally agree with the above on not restoring it looks fantastic as it is!
i thought i had found one a few years ago but it was a pretender 🙁
Worth looking at Bruno Weils designs as well....
The timber surface is seen attached to the top of the frame in a lot of designs and within steel frame in others... very confusing.
im very jealous....... if its legit or not its a great piece of furniture! 🙂
thanks
for all your replies - I will definately do some research and post the results ! I did not plan to restore it too much, only to remove the things that were added through all these years (the stickers, the fake leather cover on the top of the desk, etc)
from the same home came this sofabed - I thought I show it to you as well.
All the best,
Breuer furniture
This is a great source of information on Breuer furniture and Thonet if you can find a copy of this book.
"Marcel Breuer Furniture and Interiors" published by MoMA in 1981. Not everything that Thonet sold as Breuer furniture were not by him and he confirmed this when he was interviewed for the book. Thonet was paying him royalties on furniture he did not even designed but are just based on early tubular designs he made back in the 1920's while at Bauhaus. He basically abandoned the tubular construction on furniture after encountering several patent and design lawsuits from other designers and manufacturers.
