.
The legs are the thing with this desk...keep them and use them at some point, perhaps with just a slab top dont try to replicate the desk...

Believe it or not!
I came home from work tonight, went out front to get the mail and there it was! Sitting in front of the house. I have a carpenter who will be here tomorrow to see about the drawer. The desk top is too heavy to remove myself so I will have him help me unpack it, fix the drawer and gauge the potential for assemblance. I hope it is in good condition....
After all of this hassle, though, the desk has lost some of its allure. 🙁

wow
I'm glad to hear that the desk top finally arrived. I'm not too surprised, though. I know dealers like this and have heard stories like this, too. Some people are just really disorganized and slow when it comes to shipping. Packing large objects and getting them on their way is a big, unpleasant job and it's the kind of thing that is easy to put off for a few days, and then another day won't hurt, and then another, and then oh well, it's already a few weeks so what's another few days? And then the guy is so behind that he just can't face it at all.
I'm not saying it's right, just that that's how it can happen.
Ebay is a good place to buy if you know how to use it. It's not enough to look at the feedback percentage rate of a seller when deciding whether to take the risk. You need to look at the actual negative and neutral comments to see what is going on with him. If they're mostly "took really long to ship" and "had some damage not mentioned", that's different than mostly "never got item, didn't get refund". You can often get a good idea of what you're in for if you do this extra research.
I don't think that 98.5% positive feedback is all that great. It might be worth the risk but it would have to be something really special that I wasn't gonna see again for a long, long time---which on Ebay isn't a lot of things!
I've bought many hundreds of things and sold thousands of things on Ebay over the last ten years and have only been stung a few times. It's a great place to buy and sell as long as you're careful.

how to research a seller's feedback
Use this link to easily check a seller's negative and neutral feedback. It finds the negs so that you don't have to scroll through pages and pages of feedback. Saves lots of time and then you can make an educated decision about whether or not to bid.

IT'S A FAKE
I have the carpenter here. We took it out of the box. It may have some original parts, such as the legs, but the drawers were cut down. On each drawer one side has dove tail edges (the original), the other has been cut down and pieces of plywood are tacked to it to make it fit in the new top. The desk top is not original and the drawers do not meet in the middle. Someone added a partition in the middle. The top has multiple screw holes in it from previous use, ie they used a board from something else to assemble the top. They added a roller mechanism, but the original sliders are still at the bottom of the drawers.
I will go after this bastard.

third person
You are the third person on this board to report being scammed by him. There was another post by myself in which someone posted his name and address, but the board deleted that post. If the individual who received the fake Weinberg sculpture could email me with his address (pathdoc04@yahoo.com), that would be terrific.
Should we go after him? Anyone else who was scammed by this man should email me at pathdoc04@yahoo.com ? If enough of us report it to the police or FBI, maybe they will do something.
The false desk was verified by a mid century dealer with a large store in town. He immediately knew it was fake just by looking at the drawers. He pointed out several things, some of which the carpenter and I had already noticed, that proved it was counterfeit. He said that he couldnt believe that anyone would think they could get away with such a poor counterfeit. He is drafting a letter documenting the fraudulent item. I can have more dealers look at it, but it is so obviously fake that I dont see a point.
This guy is a criminal. He will continue to prey on people unless someone does something about it.
