Hi folks,
I kind of have a straight forward question....i recently graduated and now living on my own so i'm in need of some furniture, can't really afford new furniture so i'm looking in the used furniture sections....
I found a used Cassina LC10p table from an old couple, the table has been in the garage for a few years and they are willing to sell for 250$...however the table does show some wear and tear, the paint is missing on some parts of the table and there are some very light rust spots and scratches here an there....the glass top is in good condition since its frosted textured glass the scratches don't show.
Since the frame is steel i thought about maybe paint spraying it black again, i know someone who spray paints cars so maybe he could do it.
Question is, is 250$ a real bargain for this table (it has a stamp and serial number on there) or should i just forget about it, what would you guys do?

I think if you can afford $200 to buy a table you like, you can probably pay $50 extra for it. Don't let it pass because of $50. Just my 2 cents.

If you truly
have the bug, you know you are going to pay 250, so why are you asking us?
Enjoy it and love it and, some day, if you grow tired of it, sell it on Craig's List and trade up. Really, it's not any more complicated than that.

If I may ramble a bit...
I have a mysterious sort of a code I go by with these things sometimes, it's based on my own peculiar criteria and my preference to pay as close to nothing as possible... I once passed on a slightly ragged Bertoia side chair off of a front porch because I didn't want to pay more than $27 for it and the guy wouldn't take less than $30. This may sound ridiculous but if both parties are take it or leave it-minded and things just don't quite match up then an amount that might be perceived as trivial can be a deal-breaker. I have no regrets because I didn't really care about or have a use for the chair and had I purchased it it would have just been tossed into my closet of crap which would have been tantamount to just throwing away $30.
If this is a style you are very fond of, however, $250 seems like a very fair price to me.
But if it's not life or death so to speak and you really only want to pay $200 for the thing (regardless of your financial capabilities (I sure as hell didn't pass on the Bertoia because I was lacking the 3 freaking dollars)) then you might just let it go and wait for whatever comes next. Or just leave your number and after a bit he might call you back on it.
Speaking of first world problems, chatting about such nonsense as this sure beats living in a UN camp in Syria with 8000 starving people, no clean water and only 16 latrines, holy cow.
We gots it good!

If you buy it for $250
... you might want to wear a mask, because you are robbing them.
If you don't think that is cheap, look up what real Cassina tables cost new, or simply find out the price of a glass top that size. I guess you could find a cheaper table at a thrift store, but Corbu?

yup.
Jump on it, Cassina manufactures top-notch pieces. Consider not repainting the lovely table. Embrace the patina.
Best,
Old Mark

It is quite a plain design so you should only buy it if you love it.
It is irrelevant what a new one costs because often boring or generic looking designer pieces get little money on the secondary market where I am at least.
If you can get your $250 back reselling if you happen to change your mind then you have nothing to lose.

My two cents is that it's a nice piece. Clean and classic. The poster above who said you can't resell if it's not unusual may be correct. It is a style that has a lot of imitators. But there are more and more vintage collectors out there who appreciate the real thing.
If you're feeling bad about spending 250 dollars, go into a new furniture store or Ikea and look at what else you could have got for 250 bucks. Not much or something that was very poorly manufactured.
My advice on rehab...please don't spray paint if you can avoid it. I can't really picture the damage you're describing. Anyone coming up after you who buys it will be heartbroken if it has a poor restoration done on it. It will ruin all resale value. Replating chrome is expensive and has mixed results (at least in the bicycle world). A piece of balled up aluminium foil will take off some rust from chrome. The scratches in the glass can be buffed out by a glass shop. Anything that doesn't come off after those two processes should be left and enjoyed as patina.
