Hi,

I'm hoping that someone can help me with a dining table sugestion.

Living in a city of apartments (Chicago), I can't believe how difficult it has been to find a dining table that fits with apartment living.

What I want is something that would be dining table height (approx 29") is no more than 36" wide and is about 36" long normally, with the ability to extend to maybe 42-45" (but no more than 50")long. But most of what I find, starts at 42-45" long, and goes into the 70's or more.

Would love to find something with a more asian style, and our furnishings are decidedly NOT modern (we love the look, but never end up buying it). Would also like to stay under $2500 (and preferably under $1500).

I would prefer to avoid drop leafs, but will take them if necessary. I like the leafs that either slide out from the ends of the table, or else are built into the center of the table and fold out when you pull the table apart (is that called a butterfly leaf?)

Does such a table exist? Thanks for any suggestions.

Danish
I've seen several danish pieces with very cleverly constructed slide-out/butterfly leaves. I don't off-hand remember manufacturers but look on ebay for vintage danish tables, here's one that 45" round and leafs open to 63" oval.

I suggest looking at legs,...
I suggest looking at legs, and then have a table top cut to the size you need? whether it be wood, glass or stone.
Many places sell individual table legs. One example is below.
FYI- This is exactly what I did. I have a 60 in x 30 in table with square chrome legs.

Heywood wakefield
Not everyones taste but Heywood Wakefield did several small dinette tables 30 x 40 closed, 30 x 50 with leaf.

There's also one that 34 x 34 closed 34 x 49 with a leaf.

thanks for the suggestions. ...
thanks for the suggestions. right now I am leaning towards making our own (buying legs and having a top cut for us somewhere) -- though that means we won't be expandable (unless we make two tops and swap when needed).
I just never thought it would have been this difficult to find a table in our size.
We saw some possibilities in an asian-inspired design store, but not exactly what we were looking for. But we are in no rush, so the hunt will continue.
Thanks again.

Interesting piece on eBay
There is an interesting leafed table on eBay # 170053337056 about your size. A Gilbert Rohde design from the 1930's, very proto American modern.
