wires are a good point
I've got an Offi Wave Desk and its beautiful...but all the laptop/speaker/cell phone charger wires are completely visible in the back.. and its really ugly.
Maybe you can find a way to run the wires in between the struts so they only hang off of one side near the leg?
Command Adhesive
Have you eve rseen those clips that 3M makes with the strchy removeable adhesive strips? I have a lamp on my Nelson bench and I ran the wire down the leg fixing it in place with one of those command adhesive clips. I removed it once after it had been there a while when I rearranged my room and it did absolutely no harm at all to the finish on the bench. I'd recommend trying that. Hopefully you TV is a flat screen, A standard TV is kind a heavy for the bench don'cha think?
Here's my thoughts.....
I would probably place the TV close to a leg, so the wires could run down and then go along the wall in a painted cover. I thought of suspending the cable box tightly under and slats would work great for heat venting. We only hook up our DVD player when we use it, so the DVD is not a problem(thanks to Sony and their easy access front RCA jacks).
I recently saw 2 people had used their Eames ESU(2 wide, 2 high) as a TV stand. I was surprised to see huge TV on top, so was Herman Miller when I inquired about it and they simply said "we wouldn't suggest it".
Isokon loop table and Nelson Bench
A message for Olive who very kindly offered to help me ship a Nelson Bench from the USA to Edinburgh. I finally decided to buy an Isokon Loop coffee table instead. They sent it by mail - it was below the maximum size - and it was perfectly packed. The birch goes well with the rest of our furniture, though you could never put a TV on it......
Thanks again, Olive, for your kind offer

reply to Olive and Nelson weight limit.....
As far as weight and the TV being too heavy, it should not be a problem. Figure a 27 inch Sony Wega(what we have) weights approx 75 LB's and the Nelson bench was designed for people to sit on and most people weight a lot more than 75 Lb's. I emailed Herman Miller and the weight limit is 200 LBs at the center of a 4ft Bench. Of course we can't trust the knock off's and i wouldn't guess close to 200 LB's.
the problem is...
The problem with knockoffs is you dont KNOW how well they are constructed. See the thread linked below.

Lucifersum-
That definitely holds true for any furniture you buy sight unseen- personally I'd even be wary of purchasing authentic stuff if I hadn't lain hands on the specific piece I was considering...
But a knockoff Swan chair which is hard to find except for a few places (accessible to most only by catalog or internet) is a far cry from a knockoff Nelson bench... which are available pretty much everywhere. Even Plummers makes a version... it should be fairly easy to find one in person and gauge the construction and materials...
For this particular application I think a knockoff would be the best choice- whatever is used is bound to get scratched up (rubber feet on components or not, entertainment center load-bearing surfaces always seem to take a beating)...
