A week ago I purchased an original Frank Gehry 1972 corrugated cardboard Easy Edge R-Stool. According to the person who sold it to me it was a gift from Gehry to his friend and he gave it to him for an exchange of an art work. All the online information indicate there are two Masonite pieces on each sides sandwiching the glued cardboard. Since the piece I have does not have the Masonite pieces and there are no signs of residues of glue, is it possible that these originally were made without it? Any information these is greatly appreciated.

Interesting acquisition. Ask Frank while you still can. His early low-volume pieces are already probably highly valued, and I would expect they would only continue to climb,

I have a friend that works in his office if you are unable to make contact yourself.

Thank you cdsilva, Mr. Gehry is his nineties and I don't think he would be so inclined to bother himself with such trivial questions specially he has declared many years ago that he is not furniture designer but an architect. Maybe an assistant of his could get the information. And I agree with you, not for its monetary value but its place in American seating design and architecture it is very special.

That is indeed an interesting find.  Most of the associates from that period had already retired or no longer active in the studio. (One of them was my undergraduate thesis advisor at SCI-Arc, who also got me that 5 years gig of 110 hour/week of hardcore model building & design charette there 20 years ago).  If you are in Southern CA, you should reach out to any of the design museum curators there like at LACMA or at the Getty and see if your find is one of the studio prototypes.  The Getty acquired most of Frank Gehry's archive.  I don't know if that is accessible for anyone.  You should also revisit the information you got from the previous owner and get most of the information as accurate as you can for documentation.  The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts design collection is also a good place to reach out to see if you have one of the easy edges working models.  FOG designed the installation of Designed for Delight, Alternative Aspects of 20th Century Decorative Arts in 1997 and the Liliane & David M. Stewart has one the most extensive collection of 20th century design objects.
