that it looks real but painted. The layout of the bolts looks correct. I would still insist upon seeing the "knees" if you want to be sure, the real deal has solid legs uniquely reinforced with splines. If the legs are plywood, it's not Aalto.

find this picture from a stool from 1950
they are fine how it is, but they are painted.hadn't thought of me have black stools at home, but may become so, or should I take the liberty to try to remove the color..wonder if it will be good

Is expected on vintage stools. I assume it was part of the production process.
