In addition to yours, there appear to have been other copies made of the Z chair (link below). I would be kind of surprised if there is going to be much information available regarding any kind of ID, as far as the manufacturer is concerned.

This japanese furniture maker claims to be licensed to recreate designs from a list of designers. Nice stuff.

I have a pair of these as well....
I just learned of the Z chair today while researching my 2 "made in Japan" Z chair look-a-likes. My parents gave these to me recently while expressing my interest in mid-century furniture and I can tell you these are not recent knock offs. If I dig hard enough I can probably find an old family picture with my father sitting in one of them dating back to the 60's. I'm looking for someone to restore them in California. Referrals anyone?

The poster of the thread wasn't asking if it's a real or knockoff, he has already established that it's a Japanese knockoff. However it's a period knockoff, like someone has already said, and it's still a valuable chair. $50? you are dreaming hawkeye! Just cuz you don't like it doesn't mean it's worth nothing.

Those are not the kind of straps on these chairs, the japanese ones. I have been searching for a while but it seems no one makes these. The chairs don't have slots for the traditional style danish straps to be properly installed. these straps are simply plastic shells with two tube shaped holes on either end that accommodate springs with hooks on both ends. The problem is that on mine the plastic shell part has rotted away and I cant find those. The springs are no problem its just that plastic housing for the strings that I cant find.
