If you mean the Kite Lamp
it has attributed to George Nelson Associates!
Someone sold one at 1st Dibs as a Nelson lamp, so until someone says otherwise,I believe it.
The wooden pull is a small version of the natural wood ball on the ball clock.
I've seen them with different color schemes on the shade, can you take a snap of yours? Is the strayed inside plastic in good condition? Mine's a bit cracked.
Check out the link below (which I just found)

Thanks Barry
I spent quite of bit of time online trying to find a reference to that lamp -- guess I should've started here...
my lamp has a solid burgandy fabric shade with only a very tiny crack in the fiberglass in one corner -- otherwise its identical to the one in your picture
I'll revisit the thread on posting pictures and get one on here ASAP
I'm a lamp whore.
Great thread!
My favorite lamp was also my first post here, as my "best find" or "best deal" or whatever the title of that thread is. It is a custom piece made for the cosmetic department of a Thalhimer's Department Store in Memphis, in the late 1940s. The old store had dozens of them throughout cosmetics. When it went out of business in the late 80s, the lamps were mostly snatched up and pilfered by the employees. They occasionally pop-up at vintage shops. The going price was about $2000-$2500. I found mine in the "junk room" of an antique store that specialized in Victorian and Southern Antebellum pieces. They had no idea what it was. I knew exactly what it was. I paid either $10 or $20 for it. That was almost 20 years ago.
I own two 1940s Deco lamps from FrankArt:
I have a first generation Tizio in standard black. A bit over-exposed, but it's a classic.
On my bed-side table I have a silver with red, Luceplan Berenice.
I eventually plan to get a wall mounted Tolomeo for my home-office, desk area.
Lamp from the forties
The lamp you show as being from a memphis department store
was recently being sold on ebay as Sonneman. I bought four
of the lamps at a Dilliards that was closing its store here
and was wondering about its designer. The lamp uses a fluorescent lighting fixture so I don't see how it could be from the 40's. Looks like sixties or early seventies.

I had always assumed the florescent was a retro-fit. There is no brand on them anywhere.
I hope you're correct. I'd love to know more about the lamp. It may make it much less rare, but I'd have information, and know how to get another, etc.
A vintage store in Memphis called Flashback has had 2 on their jewelry counter for decades. They have tags on them that say "Not For Sale". That is the story that they have told customers for years. The few time I'd seen others for sale when in Memphis, they asked a LOT of money for them, and the sellers all knew the same story, too. So I'm pretty confident that the stock of them that regularly shows up at vintage retailers in Memphis came from the Thalhimer's cosmetic department. The date of 1940s comes from the fact that that particular Thalhimer's department store was built (with much fanfare) in the late 40s. It was a fabulous Art Deco department store, that was built to be their flagship location, in its day. These lamps fit the aesthetics of the space very well, though they may well have been accessorized later.
Any more info you have on them is certainly appreciated.
cheers,
Chris
Thank you
Thank you so much. That's great. I've had this lamp all these years and now I know so much more about it.
Starting bid $124 !!!
Ha, I still paid a fraction, though there is nothing like the frictionless market to bring prices down.
So, designed by Robert Sonneman for George Kovacs.
Thank you again. I'm so happy to have this information.
art deco faces...
...i picked up one myself. it's a Max Le Verrier-fake. I got it cheap at a yard-sale and it varies in this one detail and the material. but then again I wouldn't spend 5.700 for two originals either (->link)...
