I am thinking of buying this chair. I haven't been lazy, I've researched it until my eyes went squint with no luck. I've researched vatne - Ressel - cantilever - norwegian - nordahl solheim - chrome foot - sling etc. with multiple combinations. I don't really mind that it's well known or not but it would be nice to know what it is if possible and whether the asking price of $350 or £220 or ?250 is reasonable. (I know worth is subjective but I don't want to hear that you can buy them on any corner for $50. Be gentle I'm a relative newbie at this game 🙂

This is a real gem!
The chair is called "Pirate" and it was drawn in 1967 be Elsa and Nordahl Solheim. It was first produced in 1973 by O.P. Rykken & Co in Norway.
Enjoy!

Interesting...
Interesting backstory....
"We were both, but especially Nordahl, inspired by the Italian designer Achille Castiglioni, and admired his sense of clear structures and the ability to put familiar elements together into a new product.
Chairs that KENGU and PIRATE was directly inspired by Castiglioni tractor seat on a steel spring. Nordahl had even been sitting on this seat as a child, the reaper, and he talked a lot about the amazing suspension. Suspension structures were at all an area that occupied him greatly, and it was working with such models that gave him the greatest joy.
The initial plan was to build both KENGU and PIRATE in steel. KENGU, which we built first, was constructed in laminated wood when we discovered the possibilities with this material. The main problem with both models was to find the correct balance in the chair. If the centre of gravity was too far back the chair tipped over backwards. If it was to far forwards, the suspension was ineffective. KENGU had double construction in the base heel as stiffening.
Kengu was first shown at the Scandinavian Furniture Fair in Copenhagen in 1967, and the producer was OP Rykken & Co. .. (One is the line guide on this first model - straight lines with kinks - that the chair was originally designed for steel. Although PIRATE was signed simultaneously with KENGU, it was not realized until 1973. When asked Rykken with prototypes of the model both in steel and three at the furniture fair in Sjølyst in Oslo.
In the Scandinavian Furniture Fair in Copenhagen next spring, we discovered that another Norwegian producer exhibited a laminated chair that we found was confusingly similar to our Pirate. O.P. Rykken & Co. went to court with the accusation of plagiarism. There was conviction in District Court, appeals and ultimately the settlement before the case was going up in the Court of Appeal coach spring 1978. We saw the irony in going to trial with a chair that we had given the name Pirate. (The name refers to that it was a repetition of the design principle for Kengu.)"
