This desk by Svend Madsen is usually made of teak, but I'm not sure about this one. The color is wrong. It really is that yellow/green hue. I thought that maybe it was sun faded, but the color is uniform all over, even on the bottom. Any wood experts out there? Thank you.

I'd buy teak.
Sometimes it can have a greenish cast.

Yeah I was thinking very...
Yeah I was thinking very precisely selected pine, and then that parts of the figure look like ash, but these are all made of teak and it does look like teak
I think.
edit---Can be seen bigger on the etsy page

Probably teak. Snap a photo...
Probably teak. Snap a photo of where it looks like there is a good bit of end grain on the side of the desk and that'll make it easier.

garlanre - have you...
garlanre - have you refinished the desk or is this as found?
My when you said green my initial though was that is it beach sprayed with a toner, a pretty common technique during the period and found in a lot of Selig and Dux chairs. But I can't say I've ever seen that technique used on a desk, and that grain really looks like teak to me...
I'm with Leif - show us some end grain.

Sorry I wasn't able
to contribute to this thread until now, but I'd like to respond.
Thanks for that chart, tktoo. I didn't know that some teak had a yellow hue. That makes me lean toward teak. Funny, though, that when I was researching this, I could only find this desk in the easily-identified reddish teak.
No, I haven't done a thing to the finish, teakhound. It was in perfect shape when I bought it.
This piece is designed so that there is no exposed end grain anywhere on it. That's unfortunate because I'm sure you wood experts could tell if you could see that.
jerrywc, I'm shocked by your open disdain for the people you buy from on CL. I have a great deal of respect for them. They're generally very nice people who just want to make a few bucks. They're not furniture experts and they don't care to be, but I've never met one who was a "fool." Besides, if it weren't for them, I'd have to go back to my day job (horrors). If for no other reason, I love them for that.
Thank you, everyone, for your help. I so appreciate people's willingness to share their expertise on this forum.

IDK....not trying to be disre...
IDK....not trying to be disrespectful...but it is what it is...if someone was to sell a working car for $50.00 just because they were trying to "make a buck" without first doing the research to see what the market value was...most people would consider that foolish...if it makes you sleep better at night..yes most fools are very nice people...and nice people usually finish last in the race they say.. 8^)
