Great collection, the over all look is uplifting: unlike say a craftsman bungahole interior so dull & drab.I notice you dont seem to have any of the glass pieces? You started collecting about 25 years ago?I guess thats when Memphis was well out of favor? ahead of the curve...Seeing your interiors gave me a lift just as the collection did when I saw the first pieces in the early 80s....

Memphis Design
It has been fun to collect over the years. I never collected the glass because it's very expensive and I'd rather buy a piece of the furniture for the same price as a glass vase. Also the early Memphis glass is better because Memphis originally contracted Toso Vetri to produce all of their glass pieces and the quality went down after the mid 90s. I am adding a few of the silver pieces for exhibition. Thanks, DZ

I love a craftsman. I could more easily live in one than live with 80s design.

Craftsman Furniture
I agree, Memphis isn't very livable and I don't think it was meant to be, it was about form not following function. Even Sottsass said you should never have more than one Memphis design in a room because it commands so much attention.

What was the best thing about the 1980's?
The early 1980's was the interest in Art Deco and chrome furniture. The late 1980's was the beginnings of interest in returning to the mid century design period. First with flamingos and other kitsch....then people started to find Herman Miller and Knoll and then.......

I could live with a plainer 80s interior.Hey, pastels were big in the 80s peach and that certain green... polar op. of craftsman style in many aspects...Period craftsman interiors were so woody woody/ somber /dark...In realty the "total look" interiors can be a bit much in any style best expression:commercial /public venue...

Apocalypse Now
I graduated from high school in 1985. I was voted "Best Dressed" by my graduating class. Since then, I have come to realize that this meant that I was the #1 Fashion Victim. If 80's fashion was truly "back", I would think I might feel myself less a victim. I do not. I still look back and cringe in horror. Oh, the horror.

I don't mind the woodsy, dark aesthetic. At least it feels natural.

This jewellery gives me nostalgic feelings.
It resembles Commodore Amiga's keyboard.

In terms of industrial design I would say that this is because much stuff made in the 80s was of a lesser material quality.

Retrosixty - I agree with you. Aviator sunglasses have always been around I mean you only have to look at Tom Cruise to see they are in fashion. This article covers them well: https://www.80sfashionworld.com/iconic-tom-criuse-outfits-1980s/ it mentions how Tom Cruise wears aviators in that iconic movie Top Gun.
