Post Modern Overload
It is a tad overwhelming and this is just where I have the collection stored at my home and live on another area. Never meant to acquire this much but one piece led to another and before I knew it I had it everywhere. Actually looking forward to having it out of here for exhibition in a year or two. Thanks for looking.
Zanone
Awesome collection!! Thanks for sharing. I know how it is when you are passionate about certain design pieces and before you know it you have a huge collection and not enough room. Again, thanks for showing the pictures of your place and collection. It can be a scary thing to do on here.
Woofwoof, maybe your take on ...
Woofwoof, maybe your take on Memphis brings us back to our original question of why 80s design isn't more popular. I think Post Modern was more experimental and intentionally challenging to what was considered the norm in modern design so people love it or hate it. I don't know anyone who's on the fence about it and that's proven by comments on this thread.
If I remember right, there...
If I remember right, there was a thread at the DA a year or so ago that discussed Memphis at length. I don't think I hate it, but I don't love it, on whole. Most of it is very visually striking. Maybe it's the emphasis on artifice/statement that is least appealing, not even the statement so much, but the loudness of the statement.
I agree.....
Memphis was "in your face" design and made you react and re-think your own idea of an objects form, scale and purpose. All the bookcases, cabinets, sofas, chairs, lamps and tables are usable even if they look like they wouldn't be but that doesn't mean they are practical. Maybe that lack of perceived function and the unusual shapes colors and materials is the reason for revulsion among some here.
