Is there any reason why important 'keywords' are frequently misspelled on estate sale sites, ebay, and even auction listings. Just today I saw Lindblad spelled wrong at an auction house listing on liveauctioneer incorrectly, and now on ebay some listing has Ben Seibel (correctly spelled) bookends for sale , but manages to spell the form Triangle incorrectly. I've seen these misspellings across multiple platforms and venues, and I wonder if anyone else has?
Is this meant to sound folksy and naive, so the potential buyer thinks they are getting a good deal? Am I missing something?
In America
public education (and private, for all I know) as been declining for decades. Among other ills, the "politically correct" crowd became convinced that little Johnny would suffer irreparable harm if he wasn't told "you're the best" every minute. So, hard things like . . . schoolwork . . . were given the "go easy" approach. Everybody gets a gold star and a chocolate bar, even if their work is sub-par.
What do we have today ? The Entitled crowd. Honking is up, making way for your fellow human is down. Welcome to the Twenty-first century . . .
I had a set of six 70's...
I had a set of six 70's yellow eames shell chairs on h-bases I was trying to sell for what seemed like forever on craigslist.
I was asking $120 bucks a chair and my ad featured multiple photographs and relevant keywords, but not a single person bit.
Finally, after 4 months we held a garage sale.
I posted an ad on craigslist for our sale.
I listed a general description of the types of things we would be selling (no photos) and I deliberately added the following line:
"6 vintage fiberglass chairs made by Hermin Eames"
Within an hour I received 3-4 email responses to the garage sale ad from people asking to pick up the chairs before the sale. I did not respond. The morning of the sale we had 2 people knock on the door about an hour before the sale was to begin and all six chairs eventually sold for $700 bucks half an hour into the sale.
Anyways, to answer your question, yes, people do sometimes misspell things and/or act naive to what they have to attract buyers.
