US
I am in the US. I understand the supply and demand thing, but your typical person on the street isn't going to know what mid century modern is, let alone any of the Scandinavian sub categories.
Sorry, I am new to this whole thing. I don't understand how supply and demand can factor in if our community is so small as it is...
I don't understand the question.
I mean, I get the general idea, but you've lost me on the specifics.
First, are you asking about retail price, or about quality? You seem to have conflated the two.
Next, are you asking about designs, or about manufactured objects?
And... The simple American side chair you used as an example was designed with cost as a priority; the comparison you're trying to make with $500+ Scandinavian chairs might not be valid. What about the low-cost Scandinavian furniture that's available from, say, Ikea? Those chairs cost a lot less than $250...
When you say "Eames chair",...
When you say "Eames chair", what are you referring to exactly? I can buy a fine Grete Jalk teak lounge chair on Ebay for generally less money than plenty of Eames chairs on Ebay sell for. I buy vintage Danish furniture pretty much exclusively, but it has never occurred to me that I could be saving money by buying the equivalent American items. In fact, I am thankful I do not have to shell out the kind of cash that a Knoll sofa costs, or an Eames ESU, etc.

brainwashing and trend...
brainwashing and trend following can account for part of the answer...those who know are aware of the quality Danish pieces but to many others the word "Danish" makes them giddy with excitement and they push the prices up thinking they have hit the lottery jackpot.
American stuff can be great and shit just like Danish but to be honest I believe there is better value in American stuff...but Im biased.
