I have a black ash
670 from the '70's. I think it looks great with its brown cushions. Sort of the reverse scheme of the ones everybody and his brother has.
I'd imagine the shells turning a honey-gold with age, like the "new" DCM's do, and the hides looking a bit grimey in pretty short order, too.
It does seem curious that they would want
to preserve the bland and rather pedestrian (unfinished) appearance of freshly-cut ash, especially when one considers Eames' choice of highly-figured and exotic rosewood for the originals. It's a departure, no?
It's Wonder Bread to my eye.
As for Hume, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to acommodate any request to customize a set in any way that would please a customer able to forward the appropriate sum. The craftsmanship would be top-notch, too.
