A Sling sofa would look good ...
A Sling sofa would look good in Chuck E Cheese, hell, or just about anywhere!
I like the Bottoni by Marcel Wanders for a long sofa.
I have tested Ted Boerner's Theatre Sofa from DWR. It has an extremely thin profile, while being super comfy. It also comes in leather, which is probably the softest leather I have felt. The leather comes in many color choices too. The showroom piece was in a powder blue. It looked amazing. Perhaps avoiding black would be good? Maybe a lighter color would help to "open" up the space.
Did someone mention Corbusier's LC5.F 3 Seat Sofa yet? Gorgeous.
Ha
Ha! Why bother asking Barry? - it can only lead to heartbreak.
I'm still voting something slim, sleek, and as nice as possible while being as understated as possible. Its a small looking space from the photos. Something big or something too flashy would overwhelm it fairly fast.
I second Whitespike on using a lighter color as well. A friend has the Boerner sofa and a)it IS super soft leather b)she bought it as a floor model - in the Tiffany blue leather. Not my choice, but its pretty. I'd go something more neutral- charcoal grey, light camel, even ivory if you dont have kids or pets or eat food on the couch or have guests... maybe just skip ivory. ;-D
Also - there are many things I'm willing to buy vintage - but fabric sofas are not among them. Leather, perhaps...only if it was really really clean looking. And even then I'd have to scrub the whole thing down with a leather cleaner and vacuuum out the insides before I'd be remotely comfortable.

I like this one for your lounge or a movie room (different thread).

sofa: light, airy in a lighter hue
I second (eeeh, third ?) Whitespike and azurechicken on picking a lighter color (light grey, light camel,.. ) for the sofa as well.
I also agree with their previous suggestions to choose a light and airy model (>
Personally I like Jasper Morrisons Elan sofa for Cappellini (pic 1 below), but the Italians do this sort of sofa superbly. You might wish to browse B&B Italia and Cappellini (pic 1,2) websites for inspiration (or buy something similar).
Perhaps you might want to pick a sofa with chrome details (to echo the chrome lamp behind your sofa), and use a sofa with slightly rounded lines (to echo the curves your Saarinen tables).
Another option (vintage sofa models): I remember that robert1960 posted pics of his apartment before, with walls in a similar color as your space, and I recall that he had the most gorgeous sofa in his living room.. Now if I can only relocate that picture.. Maybe ask Robert himself for a description ?
Any way, whatever you choose, make sure that the sofa you pick is comfortable for you as well, looks are not everything. And good luck on your hunt !
That
That was my Robin Day Hille sofa
I still think the Robin Day Forum would be good for your space, Nick- the sides could be stained darker?
The Hille convertible sofa/bed is quite deep, but the walnut finish on mine looked great with the rosewood furniture it went with.
In its new home it'll be with teak 🙂
