Which of these dining room tables is better for the room and chairs? BTW, that is a nelson omni system in the rear. We are trying to decide if we should use it in the dining room as a hutch, or in the baby room/family room as storage. Does it fight either of these tables?

I choose...
I'd go with the first one; also the unit complements it nicely.

I "third" that--
The light-toned table's color is clashy with the chairs... on my monitor, at least.

Is that dining table from
Crate & Barrel? Looks like a fruitwood table they use to carry (made in india).

Yes, it is from Crate and Barrel. Probably is the fruitwood. I bought it for $50 because it was missing one leg. Then they had a bin of extra legs for $1 a piece, and one fit perfectly! Retail was like $1250.
It is weird, but I really like the lighter table. I don't think the pictures do the table justice. I think we will put the dark nelson shelving unit in another room. This table makes the chairs pop, and allows for 8 to sit comfortably (the other only fits 6). So, we might just keep it. We are really torn by the decision though.

Not keen on the colour clash for the second table, and what would really bug me is the fact the chairs don't fit properly underneath because of the legs - looks rather uncomfortable for those sat there!

Yup
One dinner is all you'll need to find out which table better accommodates people. If I had to straddle the table leg all night I would not be a happy camper. Besides - I think the chairs pop nice enough against the walnut toned wood - the black wood is almost garish against the bright table.

I like the lighter table...the other combo is banal, murky. The darker table mutes the chairs...when they can sing!

I'm with the majority
the light table must go!
seriously, that combo just looks weird....and I'm a fan of mismatched chairs and tables...

I'm with
azurechicken on the color issue. But the legs are a problem. Boring as it is, the corner legs give the most versatile usage.

thanks SDR
my eyes are not that singular/off...I feel many people may think light wood is "cheap/low end" and dark strong figured wood is "elegant/rich"....perhaps people are voting primarily for the table alone and not on the combination?I really favor the Wegner wishbone design, the dark table casts a pall over them esp in ebonised finish.

note:
the paper cord seat color relates well to the lighter table as well.
