I am wondering what DA-ers like to pour themselves at the end of the day.

On other threads I have extolled the virtues of my favorite "adult beverage"...a dry vodka martini. I only drink at home, so I go totally top shelf with Reyka (from Iceleand, it's my fav) Iceberg, Ciroc, Grey Goose or in a pinch Three Olives Vodka (but I need to add a pinch of salt into the shaker for that one). The best vermouth is VYA from Quady Winery but Noilly-Pratt is also good. The olives MUST be good quality. I prefer Divina olives from California, but the Spanish ones from Goya are palatable.

What's your fav? Is there a 'modernist' ideal? Do we crave the same clean lines in our bevvies or are there fluffly drink fans with Bertoia?

I love booze, but had to give it up 20 years ago because of near diabetes...
Well, not quite. I will never surrender my Napa Cabs with a steak. Sitting around sipping wine socially bores me. Give me beer or champagne or sparkling water. Bubbles and socializing are the social Tao.
I once loved great whiskies--scotch and bourbon--but haven't had any in ages.
But a vodka Gibson, especially when a piano is being played--remains the only clear demarcation between civilization and decay. Frankly, it recognizes and reconciles both.
A Gibson, or a Martini, if you prefer olives, tastes the way life feels--full of opposites (vodka and vermouth), which if you can bear them, go surprisingly well together, once you acquire the taste.
Everything else is just liquid...and plain, cool water is the best of that.

I'm no cork dork, but I'll...
I'm no cork dork, but I'll crack a good glass of red wine anytime. And someone otta hook up Reyka vodka to my I.V. on my deathbed, otherwise I might look shaken. But no happy hour would be complete without that token puff of some real sweet weed. Do I sound like a candidate for the Betty Ford Clinic? I always thought Edsel Ford was much better looking anyhow.
All The Best,

I agree with Mark on every detail...
Except I'd substitute Vodka with Beefeater Gin Martini's very dry with two plump olives (pimientos removed)... Cheers!

SCOTCH is KING!!
i like all high quality booze, and even a great many pedestrian choices that satisfy both nerve and pallete. but in all my long and lovely relationaship with booze, nothing touches or compares with the godly wonders of a good scotch. scotch makes me feel like Buddah. i think Buddah was a scotch drinker.

To me I'm hoping!
Interesting to see a trend that DA-ers lean towards cocktails. And Mark, you are so right about Champagne. Not thing says 'Party' like Champagne. My hubby and I are big fans, we've been trying different ones for years. I have save the little metal cap that fits over the corks and glued them onto magnets. We have, like, 46 or 47 of them lined up on the fridge, no two alike. Makes for an interesting conversation starter!

From the po-boy's bar:
Gin and tonic w/ lime twist (of course)
Mickey's malt beer
White wine
DIET Seven-Up
[I haven't mixed up my gin with the other beverages; Seven-Up turns out to be a heavenly mixer with wine or beer ! Who knew ?]
