Why would someone adhere shockmounts in a wide mount configuration to an arm shell? Do you think the shell is simply sitting on the base as a prop for the picture?

Narrow mount stacking bases by Herman Miller exist (vintage and current production).
It still doesn't make sense on an armchair, and it looks silly.

widemount dowels
I know a particular company offers widemount dowel bases...I'm skeptical about the way they look. Are they really that bad? I remember one of you DA fanatics mentioned that they didn't like that base. I know it's not true to the widemount fiberglass chair but instead of remounting the 4 shockmounts (really annoying), this could be a viable alternative.

It just looks weird.
But the wide mount Eiffel tower base looks even worse.
