Just curious. This chair sets my pants on fire. They come along very seldom. What's a reasonable price?

i love that Girard chair ...
That chair sets my pants on fire also!!!!!
love that Girard chair and if I were not on a austerity program cause of the price of 40 dollar oil it would be mine.
Those chairs sell from 3500.00 to 5000.00 on a good day from Wright auction.
In London 3 years ago one sold for $15,000 dollars,
I love Girard, he is my favorite of all the designers of the 20 century, and there are not many of those chairs left around, most of them came out of the Braniff center in Dallas and a lot of the Executive clubs of Braniff and the one year they were sold by Herman Miller, so with that info any
price would be good price.

I do think
I do think these chairs are exceptionally good. It's a shame that it's a little too quirky to come back into production. Or if it does, it will probably be through Vitra, and it will be exceptionally expensive. *sigh*

I, too, have to profess my undying love for Girard's uber-rare furniture. Damn, I wish I had the sofa with the winged arms.

The sofa above is the exact same sofa
that my New York loftmate had. He was lucky to buy a pair of sofa, two grey marble side tables, a chair with straight up arms and an ottoman (from a Braniff office closing).
This beautiful furniture was produced for about 4 years (only 1 year to the public) and it's filled with vintage latex foam rubber, which is usually rock hard and sifting into dust.
Luckily, the sofa can be mistantled and the fabric can be cleaned with new non-latex filling, so you don't have to ruin the rare fabric is get the pieces redone.
The fram is very well made and sturdy, but I was surprised at how low they are.
I do wish Vitra or Herman Miller would reissue a few select pieces...they'd sell quite well, depending on the price.

if you bought that chair for 2180.00 you killed a fat hog, the chair on a bad day is worth 3500. as a friend of mine bought one f or 3500.00 last year. with arms so i have no idea if there is a dedut cause of no arms anyway you got a great deal and a great chair,
I felt the same way when i got my tuggenhat chair I paid around 2900.00 for it and see wright auction sells a pair for $12,000 and a individual has one for $5800. always love to see so one gettting a good deal.

whitespike unfortunately in my experience, not very. In fact the side chairs (the gray ones pictured above) bordered on "torture rack" for me. It's a shame as I totally love the entire Girard group. I guess that while he was a master of color and pattern, ergonomics was not his strong suit.

The ones I sat in had petrified foam,
so I'm not the judge, but heck, if the Poul Kjaerholm sofas can have quality down filling, why in the heck can't these? They certainly look crisp, don't they?
In the day, they used crisply shaped foam rubber. I'm sure there's a softer media that can used and still keep the crisp shaping of the upholstered areas.
One thing, though, they certainly were designed for a tall person!

Thanks, all...
I am somewhat beside myself.
Pegboard, the 'lounge/club' chair and sofa editions can't be that uncomfortable, right?

Lunchbox
In my experience while they are certainly not as bad as the side chair I would not call them "comfy", but who cares. They look just great. So it's not the chair you kick back in when you watch those 2 hour movies. It's still a great piece and a good investment. And maybe it's me, perhaps they fit others perfectly. I thought that perhaps deep comfort was not part of the program for these pieces, as they were designed for Braniff Airline lounges where one presumably would not be spending a long time sitting around.
Like I said, I really love the design of the Girard group and wanted it to feel as good as it looks. I was disappointed when I did not find them that comfortable. Same thing happened with the Nelson Kangaroo chair. I had a HUGE jones for one of those until I sat in one. They are not well pitched, they sit too upright, not laid-back and loungy and the seat is too shallow. It sure tempered my enthusiasm, but in one respect it was good because it saved me a bunch of money. Like the Girard pieces, you rarely see the Kangaroo except at auction where they bring very strong prices.
The colors of the chair you just bought are nice and I like the variety of texture with the mix of naugahyde and hopsack. Throw a vivid colored Girard pillow on there and you are really cookin' with gas!

lunchbox i have sat in ...
lunchbox i have sat in all of the Girard chairs , yours and the side arms are the most comfortable Pegboard is correct about the other two, they used very little padding in those, and i have a feeling they were for the steno pool and not the lounges as your chair is, anyway they are great, I think everyone wished they owned one, and your investment will still be better than putting your money in the stock market.
consider your self to be a true American Getting out and stimulating the economy.
The worst chair i have ever sat in is the Joseph Hoffman chair the big cube square club chair, has no bounce and hard as rock,
