Is it just me or have the question-based threads a la "Is this worth anything?" completely dried up? Personally, I always thought those threads were quite entertaining and I miss them. Do you think it's because of the horrible economy or because the potential posters are scared of the scathing responses?

Just an observation on a lazy Saturday afternoon 🙂

The
latest ones seem not to have been accompanied by photographs so die a rather fast, natural death...
Laid back, chilled, slightly boozy Saturday evening 😉

You're right,
there's been a lack of these funny yet interesting questions.
So I just posted one about a strange ebay-item 🙂
EDIT: after some absence I noticed i have a (COUNTRY) now too - Thanks patrick & Alice!

Some Americans (at least) may not recognize everything on the the international acronyms list.

You are so right
SDR! I have only recently learned that Switzerland is CH, which stands for Confederatio Helvetica. Not many Americans would have figured that one out, I wager.

After it was -22 degrees Farenheit yesterday morning
and today is the first time in 82 hours that is above zero, then the only question comes to mind: WHY IN HECK AM I LIVING IN MINNEAPOLIS??????
Seriously, is now in the 20's and this i can handle.
Maybe after I thaw out, I can come up with a more interesting question....

At
the risk of sounding political, I'll bet your new President knows the International acronyms, unlike the previous one 😉

Call me silly, but
wouldn't you think they'd make it a bit simplier:
England - UK
Ireland - IR
Sweden - SD
Switerland - SW
Germany - GE
Finland - FI
Norway - NO
Iceland - IC
Denmark - DE
Spain - SP
France - FR
Belgium - BE
Holland (Netherlands) - NE
Italy - IT
I wish the politicians and bureaucrats running International community would lighten up and simplify things more.

Whats complicated about the abbreviations you list? All seem pretty sensible.

ISO 3166-1 is good enough...
ISO 3166-1 is good enough for me. And there are dozens of other country codes already, covering all kinds of special usage. I see little need to invent new standards.

To get back on topic...
To get back on topic (sorry Riki), I agree that the occasional thread on the monetary value of something can be interesting and even amusing. I am just hoping that such threads do not take over. It's a risk on a public forum.

This thread might just as well been titled, "What's happened to Dashes?"
