Someday I will know everything like the rest of y'all and I can stop asking these sophomoric questions. What the heck is fat lava? I see it everywhere used as a term to describe chunky German midcentury pottery. Is it a technique?

It
seems to have become a generic term to describe (as you say) all 60s and 70s West German pottery by the likes of Seurich etc
I guess 'fat lava' came from the drippy, molten glazes they used ??

Lava
The lava vase is a popular type of German ceramic using thick, heavy, "imperfect" glazing. I guess "fat" is additional descriptor for a certain style of lava vase.
