is designed so you can use the coffee carafe to pour the new water in the reservoir and have time to put the carafe in place BEFORE the hot water comes spewing out. I love my Bunn, but it is inexcusable that it requires a separate pitcher to fill it.

have solved this problem long time ago with a closing mechanism that can only be opened by putting in the carafe...as Henri Dreyfuss used to say (or could have said): "design starts with gathering all competitive products, analyzing them and see where you can improuve enough to make the purchase worthwhile for the consumer...."

Yes, koen, i've owned Brauns, etc., but...
I prefer how quickly the coffee is brewed in a Bunn and with the right filters and Peet's French Roast, there is indiscernible loss in taste. It also quickly produces 200 degree water that can be pored into a sauce pan and brought to a 212 degree boil in just a few seconds. AND it obsoletes my Hobbs tea kettle--no reason to bring water for tea to a boil. 200 degrees does just fine for my Barry's Gold from Ireland. If only Bunn would solve the problem with a manual switch.
