Hi all,
I had this rosewood highboard that was totally wrecked and kept the bottom (feet + support) and top.
The top is veneered, it has one long edge wich has a strip of veneer, but the ends are blank and show the particleboard.
It's made in brazilian rosewood (rio).
I want to finish the edges with solid strips of wood, I've not yet decided wich profile I will choose.
Rosewood like this has become difficult to come by, do you know of any wood that would match my veneer, is more easy to find and a little less expensive?
It doesn't have to show the same movement of grain as the rosewood, I'm looking for something with the same color and texture (when sanded smooth).
The rosewood is a warm, reddish brown, like the grain shown.
Thanks for your input!
Ah, the "rosewood" conundrum.
The Hobbit House wood ID site has what I think is an excellent article on just this subject. (link below)
If I were you, though, I'd contact the nearest hardwood dealer that handles exotic species and explain what you need. There are so many varieties of "rosewoods" and suitable substitutes that it really comes down to the qualities of individual samples rather than actual species to make a good match.
Bon chance!
