New at this!
AS the title says I am very new at this. Just got a divorce 1.5 years ago and did not even know what Mid Century Modern or Danish furniture meant until recently. Considering I live in Ok I have not had much exposure to this style of decorating. Long story short I have been collecting paintings of and on the past 5 years on a budget so everything I have was a good bargain. Today I learned that the floor lamp I bought for $120 out of a warehouse in OKC was designed by an Italian by the last name of Guzzini. I new it was 60's vintage when I saw it but had no idea that it might be worth something. I talked to a nice lady in NYC today that had one listed for $4K. Seriously?? Can anyone back this up? I'll put a pic up in the next couple of days.

Well Jiveturkey...
you may not have had much experience with this style of "decorating" but you certainly have some outstanding MCM architecture in Oklahoma. Best of all, it's AFFORDABLE compared to other regions! I have actually been wanting to get back down there to scope some of it out in more detail.
WELCOME!! But, if you have any signs of OCD in your personality at all and you're discovering this genre of design...you're a goner!!
Re
DudeDa,
It's funny you mention OCD. A couple of things haye not helped this situation, one is the divorce itself I can now design the way I want too, the other is my roomate just moved out and left me with an empty living room. In the past month I have spent 5-7K on some really cool stuff. I had to buy a few repro pieces only because my budget doesn't match my taste. I have never had this much fun in any other hobby I have had. Today my living room has a repro Goetz sofa, repro Eames Lounge and Ottoman, an eckornes stressless lounge, a nagutzi (sp) coffee table, the lamp mentioned above, and several pieces of artwork. I bought a Paul Maxwell Stencil Work out of the same warehouse I purchased the lamp. My OCD is not even in question. 🙂
Garage Sale Finds
Yes, major advantage growing up in this area. Many of the finds are garage sales. Several from second hand stores. The easy ones are fewer and fewer, as Mid-Cen-Mod has become mainstream. Ironically, it's now the less iconic, and often more rare pieces like that $5 thin edge cab that I tend to find. Whereas, the stained brown vinyl sideshell sits for months at the Goodwill with the $80 sucker price on it.
I'll add a couple of fun "bulk" purchases I've made:
- 200 sideshells - $5 apiece (I emptied an auditorium)
- 50 to 60 Eames Aluminum Group chairs - $25 apiece, when Herman Miller was updating all their offices with Aerons.
Would anyone be interested in a similar thread about "the fish that got away?" Those bargains you let slip through your fingers. Oh the shame. I've got few choice tales of regret.
Fish That Got Away thread added
I've added the thread. Now go share your most embarrassing tales of woe.

Just stopped by
To post a new best-find. PP503. After watching the making-of video I became fascinated with the chair and started hunting around until I found one for a deal. Five minutes in this chair will make anyone a true believer in Wegner's ability. And even tho I didn't pay anywhere near retail for it, I can completely see why someone would.
I'm jealous, Lucifersum!
You know, when I first started amassing modern furniture-- before I knew Hans Wegner from Hans Christian Anderson-- I owned either this chair or a knockoff, which I eventually got rid of, to make room for something else.
I try to reassure myself that mine was undoubtedly a knockoff. I try to forget that mine did indeed feature those impressive finger joints.
Ah, youth.
