George Nelson Thin Edge rosewood Credenza #5720
Found this in an ad on Craigslist. Vague ad showed a dark picture of it lying on it's back in a landscapers trailer surrounded by old tires. I saw white knobs and aluminum feet, and knew what it was. Next morning I went to the tiny second hand shop where it was for sale, and got there just as the owner was opening for the day. $100 later, it was mine!
bargain magnet
I love reading these bargain finds! A find like this is what really got me started on my mid-century journey. There's a great rush to be had from the hunt and then spotting something out of nowhere that you KNOW you must have and you KNOW it's going to be had for a song. I have to sit and try to really count how many rare finds I've been blessed with. More than my fair share for sure. It's hard to pick which were the best, but I do have some favorites.
The first: 1951 Lester Greis for Heifetz Lamp - $2 at a local thrift shop - sold the next week for nearly $4000.
George Nelson Steel Frame Sofa - $1 at a college surplus auction.
20 Knoll Saarinen Stools - $13 ea. at the same auction.
George Nelson Spike Clock - $2 at a local yard sale.
Knoll Armless Sofa - Free from my kid's daycare.
3 Lawrence Laske Toothpick Side Tables - $40 ea. from craigslist.
And a recent find - Poul Jensen Z Chair - $30 from craigslist.
Ok Ok ... I'll shut up now! Even I think I sound like an ass. LOL 🙂
My Two Best Finds
1) A couple of years ago I spotted two of these chairs on someone's porch. When I asked the owner if I could buy them, he said he only cared about those "retro" chairs' functionality, and that he'd trade them for two new plastic chairs. I bought a couple of plastic chairs for about $20 total and we made a good trade. (Yes, I know they need glides.)
2) Stray calico kitten. I'd give up everything I own before giving her up.
