Yes, I know it's a floor lamp, but is there a commonly used name for the subspecies? I see this type (large cylindrical cloth-over-plastic shade encased in a wooden structure that also forms the legs) popping up with increasing frequency, although I don't discount that that may be mostly because I'm on the lookout for them.
And while we're on the subject ...
When were these things most popular? I wanna say late '50s/early '60s, but that's just a stab.

You're right about the era. And you probably do see them more often now, not just because you're more aware of them but because the people who bought them when they were new are now dying off and their stuff is coming on the market.
Also, things from this era are very popular with the Apartment Therapy types, so there's a fresh new market for them.

The arithmetic works about right. A young(ish) adult in the late 1950s/early-'60s would be getting elderly now, provided he or she is lucky in at least one significant regard.
Gotta winder how long this particular retro fad will last. It was just a few years ago that slightly earlier stuff (think early- the mid-'50s dinette sets, for instance) was fetching considerably more than I see them it for these days. Part of that might be the down economy, but I suspect the bigger part is that the folks willing to hand over the dough for such things have, um, moved on.
