Early Eames Lcw in walnut I am looking at - what do you think? Is the wood dryness?

Thanks for your reply

Hmm
Nice color, but the finish is rough. I would probably hold out for one in better condition.

a bit weathered, but nice
it looks like the shock mounts are ready for the dustbin. i'd also guess the wood could use a gentle cleaning, too. other than that, i'm a fan.

I'd pass.
I bought two of these at auction, both old chairs, and on both the backrest came unglued. There's no guaranteed way to fix it, either. I had planned to repair them and keep them but finally decided it just wasn't worth it. I sold them for a nice profit and moved on.

yea...chair is nice but those shockmounts have got to go
I like the age and natural condition of the chair.
Get some Howard Feed & Wax and rub it down and it'll glow, warts and all.
Any reputable Herman Miller dealer can get you brand new shockmount replacements, and I'd go for it.
Display it proudly in your Living Room.
By the way, if you're in Europe, Vitra should be able to get you those shockmounts.

considering it is at least...
considering it is at least 50 years old IIRC, I don't think its bad at all, considering how fragile they are. It seems pretty hard to find one without chips to the veneer. If the price is right-----------

Price is outrageous...
Price is outrageous considering condition. Hold the thought for a restored or minty one. Save yourself the trouble.
Factoring all the cost for restoration, this is a $200-$300 chair at most in todays market (global economic stings not considered).

Not to mention
Not to mention - if you have the shockmounts professionally done they will replace the single lozenge mount with two round mounts. 🙁
Why not just buy a new one?
