The difference between
acceptable (?) work and work which requires no excuses is the difference between mechanics who say "you're making a mountain out of a mole hill" (or, "you're not making a watch !") and those who don't. Both kinds will continue to exist, side by side, indefinitely, I'm sure . . .
The funny thing is, no one drives the perfectionist but himself. You couldn't keep him from doing it that way; it's built in. He doesn't do it out of snobbery but because it's the only way that gives him pleasure.
And it's not exclusive; anyone who wants to can join the club. You just have to let go of "instant gratification" (an illusion in any event).
It seems this thread has...
It seems this thread has exploded! Waffle, beautiful work on the petal table. I wish the table I bought had the original redwood top, but it has now been passed on. As a quick update, I refinished the rosewood top and hopefully the pictures are visible on here. A fellow mid-century enthusiast just bought it from me a few minutes ago and it seems he will either keep it as/is with the petal table base (though get it re-powder coated) or swap it out with a tulip table base. I sold it to him mainly because he intends to use it with a set of Bertoia diamond chairs and that is a proper way to do things. Also, Waffle, I seem to recall you mentioning that you hoped yours was a dining table. If this friend of mine ends up swapping out the base for a tulip table base, should I get you his contact info? I believe you would only need to swap out the bottom half of the base as well. Great to see all of the enthusiasm and please let me know what you think of the rosewood.
like that top
when I saw it originally in picture form it was unclear what type it was. Now it is clearly a coffee table, and a fairly low one at that.
I considered re powder coating mine as well but it is in presentable enough shape I think.
She's all packed up now, the petals safely snuggled in foam wrap and packing wrap.
