Maybe there's been something...
Maybe there's been something on TV or magazine recently? I haven't seen it though...

Don't worry about Siaz, he seems to always post a comment like that when someone expresses surprise at auction prices/values. Change the record dude.

2 times ?
2 times? That pair on the Phillips link went for more than 7 times the estimate of £15-20k.

We had this one last year
Then they sold an armless one at Phillips for 52K. The very next day I had someone who wanted to buy ours. We had it priced for less than 1/10th of the one that sold at Phillips, but they still insisted on a discount.
Seems like since that high result (which we assumed was a fluke) they have been selling very high in the US.
I think that his designs were largely unknown (this chair was sometimes mis-attributed to Viggo Boensen) so perhaps the novelty and perceived rarity of them was driving interest. But what do I know.

Latest news on this chair - it´s NOT Martin Olsen
Hi guys, I´m new here and I think it´s a great site.
Latest news on this chair has come up within the last 2 days.
Bruun Rasmussen Auctions (DK) has been digging in history.
See link ( I hope it works)
Interresting how their 2 chairs (similar to those sold for £ 140.000 in London) will sell tomorrow ?

Those are similar, but not...
Those are similar, but not of the same design as the chairs which have fetched the highest prices. Similar, but not the same.

correction: the chairs...
correction:
the chairs that sold yesterday, june 11, was of a slightly different design that have never fetched the highest prices.
but the chairs which are being sold tomorrow, june 13, are indeed the same design as the ones that were sold in London.

Thanks Olav
A really good article. It's a pity more dealers and auction houses
were not more thorough with their research before making an attribution.
I am impressed to see an auction house go to so much trouble to
get it right. This is an id mystery worth it's weight in gold.

incredibly interesting!
i've been following the crazy prices of the last few weeks and now am reading this.
it's like a thriller!
do you think it means the end of this "martin olsen" or should i say this "non-martin olsen"?
good stuff though and hats off to bruun-rasmussen
