There is such a thing as rattan rope. It would be entirely reasonable to use it for weaving a chair. It would have been more common 50-60 years ago. Because a chair similar to Hans Wegner's had been around in one form or another, specifically in the 1930s or so by another designer who had used Danish cord, Wegner was particular about not using cord and was kind of testy when asked about it, saying that his materials were different, that for example, he used rattan rope. It's about the same size as the larger cord, but a bit hairier, more varigated in color, and definitely stiffer.
