This chair is for sale locally, and I'm going to take a look.
It looks right to me, but is there something I am missing, or anything specific I should be looking for to authenticate? My research suggests some of them have markings under one of the arms, but that doesn't seem conclusive.

Yes, incised marks under one arm
and they are not tiny marks. But I don't think anyone has copied this chair, have they? I own one so it's on my radar and I've never seen any copies.
I would just make sure that the seat is woven with the bigger diameter paper cord. There should be three strands through the slots in front of the spokes in the back. Narrower paper cord is way more widely used in other chairs and you might find a J16 rewoven with the narrower stuff (like mine, which I have to redo someday).
Below is a detail of the seat. You just make out the number of strands at the back.
They're comfortable if you have a pillow at the lower back, in my opinion. Go for it!
