Picked up a set of four of these. They look identical to other ch23s, but are only stamped with "88" and pencil initials. They are oak frames with oak backrests. Anyone seen other with this marking? I know some of the newer ones had foil labels, but these frames look fairly old. Knock offs? Real? Opinions?

Thanks for the input. I had a ch23 at one time with a Carl Hansen & Son burned stamp. These looked identical and the craftsman ship is the same. So I was guessing they were originals also. However, all four need new seats. Let the hand cramps begin!
88 Stamp
I bought a Wegner CH25 not long ago and it is not marked except for a stamped in 88.
At the time I asked for advice on this forum and several replies confirmed that I got a real Wegner chair.
I also sent an email to Carl Hansen & Son with pictures of my chair. The folks at Carl Hansen & Son further confirmed the replies I got on the forum stating that in the early years a lot of Wegner pieces were unmarked expect for a stamped in number. Based on my pictures they estimated that my chair is between 40-50 years old. I wouldn't be surprised if your chairs fall into the same age range as well.

I just picked
I just picked up one of these from a local thrift store ($14.00) not a bad score but mine has the foil sticker on the inside. one thing i noticed is you said yours has an oak backrest? the one i got has a teak backrest and the rest of the chair is oak, now that i think of it I have only seen the oak and teak combo on this chair. did they make a variant that was all oak during the early years of production?
