I need a reading lamp for a lounge chair in my bedroom-- I've no extra space for a floor lamp, so I'm in the market for one that mounts to the wall.
I've always loved the Christian Dell scissor lamp, and it'd be a practical choice. Unfortunately, I'd like to spend around $100, and vintage Kaiser Idell lamps seem to fetch around $300-400 on Ebay.
Anyone know of cheaper alternatives, of this type?
If you can be patient?
I purchased a vintage metal scissor wall mounted lamp made by Lightolier with a glass diffuser a while back. The shade on my lamp is derived from a cone rather than a sphere like the lamp by Dell. I feel it resembles a collaboration of Bauhaus meets Jacobsen or Panton maybe.
I mention this only to suggest that unless you Love the Dell lamp - there are innumerable variations on the idea with a more modest price point, if you have the option of time.

Um, speaking of IKEA.... a few days ago I needed a wall-mounted light for a friend, she wanted something modern, so I picked out this unobtrusive LED model from Ikea (which can be directed exactly where you need it to go, and is pretty bright for LED):

That said, I had also thought of hacking together two IKEA products to make a scissor lamp, similar to the Dell pictured, after getting the idea from my shaving mirror...
That would be this bathroom mirror (available in white or steel):

...and this work lamp (grey, but could be painted white):

The trick is to remove the head off the lamp, and stick it on the end of the scissor assembly (the mirror is easily removable), in a graceful way. Might take a bit of thought, but I think its doable. Won't have the cachet of the Kaiser Dell, but it'd be the functional equivalent for about $25.
