I just found this and wanted to share:

"Shorpy.com | History in HD is a vintage photography blog featuring thousands of high-definition images from the 1850s to 1950s. The site is named after Shorpy Higginbotham, a teenage coal miner who lived 100 years ago."

Eclectic and captivating. Highly recommended.

Incredible blog! I found...
Incredible blog! I found myself enveloped by the quality and subject matter of the photos! Marilyn Monroe, whom I've never been smitten by, looks astounding in a few pictures. Felt as if I could reach out my hand and brush them across her face with locked eyes drawn into a deep kiss. Wild I tell ya! Check out the Western Electric office party. Smattering of personalities and a "who-dun-it" quality.
Gotta go...Thanks Gustaf!

Absolutely fabulous site
Is it just me or does everyone (except the swimming mermaids and the drunk housewives on page 7) look like they are whacked out on Prozac?
Was it just the signature look of an era to be somber and spacey? Or, is this, perhaps, a comment on not having fluoride in the water and everyone was afraid to show their teeth?
Whatever the case may be, great website.

Yeah, Shorpy's great!
I've spent several hours exploring this site, in the last few months.

Thanks for your comments,...
Thanks for your comments, and tack så mycket koen for responding in Swedish.
Yes, it's a treasure. Probably my best internet find of 2008. I am happy that you liked it.
Riki, haha, yes, I think it is just you, although you may have a point regarding some of the staged photos. There are lots of exceptions though, especially in the many candids. Have you seen the gentlemen in the linked photo?
A few months ago I found a large collection of vintage New York photos, but now it seems lost in the Google. Does anyone have the link handy?

Alfred Steiglitz
I noticed some pix were his. His work is really great. His pix of Georgia O'Keefe are amazing. He really captured her. The Santa Fe Georgia O'Keefe Museum has severl pieces that he took of her, they're wonderful.

That's a very interesting site. I like the photo titled, "The Player: 1948" of the little boy throwing a baseball.
Now this is creepy:
