Hey guys,
Just curious. I just picked up a ball chair for my wife for Xmas. Since we will likely never own an original Adelta made one, and she had a cheaper modern knock off, I thought the best thing was this vintage one made in the US. The base is aluminum an the quality is really very nice. About 6 inches more diameter than the repro we have.
I know Treadway had two for auction not that long ago, but there was no info. I know it is not anything that special, but I was curious who might have made the chair. I was told it was certainly late 60s early 70s manufacture...and there are some aspects that lead me to think that might be the case. Any thoughts? My research over the past couple weeks has produced very little. God knows enough companies many their version of this, but for an older copy, I rather liked it. Very comfortable.
Thanks as always,
Josh

Eh Josh
I'm curious to know why one couldn't afford an adelta one. I only ask because I bought mine from Wright a few years back for around $900USD but cost me two and half times that to ship here to Australia.
Are they more expensive now?
From any research I did years ago the US seemed to have an abundance of them....Has that changed?

Well I guess i did not see that auction in 2009 and since then have not looked as hard as others. But yeah there was a Rago one for 1900.00 for one made in the mid 2000s, this year so maybe I could get one after all.
I have been going mainly by the retail prices for one, and the 10k usd price always seems a bit out of reach 😉
Either way I am happy with this vintage one in the mean time.

I was outbid on one for $1100 USD at rago's before I finally succeeded at Wright's for $900USD....so one would suppose they're still around and rather inexpensive too.
Here, they sell at auction for around $5000 to $6000 and yes they're around $12000 new here too.
I was fortunate enough to buy an Asko one.
That's mine in the image below on the loading dock of Wrights.
But I do like the alloy base on yours.

Yeah but I am sure yours has much better build quality in general, especially on the swivel . The one I got is not bad at all, much better than the new knock offs, but perhaps in time, I will find her a nice original. 😉

For over 20 years I lusted after one and when I finally secured one I'm yet to really sit it in it...(laughing). It sits covered up in an old shitty shed in the country where a 'picker' would be proud to stumble upon it.
Fuuny species us humans!
It seems to swivel as one would expect it to.
Your craigslist seems to be 'made heaven', ours is only good for the discrete 'meet & fuck'
Ever tried there?

Yeah it seems even the Askos are not that bad price wise. Hmm perhaps next Xmas will be another upgrade.

....it's still only October.
Good time to buy anything of late, it's a buyers market particularly on ebay.
It's the auction houses that seem to bring better dollars today....Can't quite figure that one out!

Did you find it here?
Are you asking the dimensions of the cushions?

Good find.
The exact cushion measurements are 650mm x 600mm and 90mm thick.
They are rectangular although you will see images of them that they look like some of the edges are rounded at one end.
They are stuffed with the usual upholsters filling, well the new ones are anyway. They are soft unlike if they were stuffed with a rubber/foam inner.
Try dedece here in Sydney for swatches of material albeit they have inflated opinion of themselves & difficult to deal with. It will depend on the age of yours as it was with mine. My fabric had 'long gone'.
Let me know if you get stuck

Thanks for the dims ball. I tried dedece but they wouldn't play because my chair is a late 70's issue imported from the states. The fabric is all good so my upholsterer should be able to come up with a decent range of choices. Thanks again - good to see the forum is still serving a purpose for the occasional query like mine.
Cheers
