Well, I don't know much about the chair and ottoman. I know that I really enjoy them. There are signs of quality (ground seams). I think it is flattened tubular chromed steel. I believe there used to be leather armrests, as there are 'pegs' that would keep the leather in place. The ottoman has very high quality "suspenders" that latch into eyelets.

That mark appears to be a Chinese character, although I am unable to find a reference to it in either of the Japanese or Chinese dictionaries I regularly use.
I'll check with a few people to see if they recognize it.
