Two days ago,the International Herald Tribune did a story on good design. One of the items they mentioned was the Vegetal Chair by the French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec which is being produced by Vitra. I think it's fun. Do you like it?

and i read that it was the most difficult of all vitra's chairs to produce and engineer, even more so than the panton chair which took years.

I have briefly sat in this...
I have briefly sat in this and it is not the most comfortable chair but ok if only sitting in it for a sort while but I can imagine it wouldn't be too comfortable after a longer period.
I have also been informed Vitra are giving away Miniatures of the Vegetal chair with each purchase of the full size version which is pretty cool.

I guess it's better than...
Selling a plastic miniature for $200.

the Timberland logo.

Funny.
I thought the same thing Brent.
I like it. But have no interest in having it. Way too many Monobloc chairs
in the world as it is.
Starting with the stack for 7.99 each just inside of every grocery in the us.
I have a half dozen Solairs. I call them the 'laundry basket' chair.
They have survived 3 winters in a snow bank. Nice and sturdy and comfortable.
Nothing special really. I do like the circular shape.
And being made by IEL. Sold in groups of 10.
I realize some are 'designed' but the price difference is comical. It is the same
structure.

The Solair is a funny design, never seen it before!
The Designboom article mentions that Colombo's chair was the first all-plastic chair, but other sources say it was Bätzner's design for Bofinger ? who wins the price?
(I have some Bofingers in the garden, they are indestructible and cost 10-30 Euros a piece)

One of the
very first Modobloc chairs appeared in my Safeway in about 1985. I bought two, for about $5 each. The brand was Club -- the typical white arm bucket with four "slats" each in seat and back. But the arm/back hoop was a continuous slanted arc, unlike any subsequent offering. I thought it was handsome. A little too relaxed posture for dining -- an all-purpose design in that regard, I guess. A Belini-style (?) leather or fabric slip cover would have made them actually elegant, I surmised.
There's at least one photoset online comprised entirely of "found" Monobloc chairs, in situ. . .
